DISAPPOINTING LAST GAME FOR THE BOOT
Last game of the season followed by the annual ' P--- U-' in Nantwich
and the Boot serve up one of their worst performances. a strange game in
which there was little between the two teams in terms of possession but
Bentley were clinical in their finishing and hammered the Boot by a
very flattering 8 - 1. Clearly Bentley WILL win everything this year and
'hands up' they are a very good side. The Boot however hit the
self-destruct button by conceding two early goals from speculative right wing
crosses. In both cases the ball flew into the far top corner of the net.
There was brief hope when Danny Dodd (Doddy )skipped passed a bemused
Bentley keeper and fired in an unstoppable shot from a fine angle. The
game continued to slip away from the Boot with Bentley scoring goals on a
regular basis. WE NEVER GAVE UP AND CONTINUED TO PLAY FOOTBALL. Further
chances were made by the Boot but just wouldn't go in. Difference
between the two teams was that a highly professional Bentley converted their
possession into goals, the Boot didn't.
A memorable season in which the Boot & Shoe surprised many teams. 30
points in the league a Semi-Final and many good memories. My highlight
being the 2 - 1 win at Rease Heath against The Wickstead. This was surely
when all realised that the Boot were a genuine force.
Forget the defeat against Bentley this was followed by a highly
successful tour of Nantwich starting at The 'Boot and Shoe'). A fantastic turn
out with only a couple of 'no shows'.
Finally, some could say these practical jokes stink!!!! They certainly
do when Steve Allcock (Ally) decides to put rotting fish in Beefy's bag
and Parker's shoes. Has to be said though there have been worse smells
in the changing room.
